Removal and replacement procedures Hard drive ✎ The hard drive spare part kit (spare part number 517639-001) includes left and right bracket rails, a connector cable, Mylar cover with tab, and 4 rubber isolators. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see "Battery" on page 4-7). 5. Remove the primary hard drive cover (see "Primary hard drive cover" on page 4-9). If you are removing the secondary hard drive, remove the secondary hard drive cover also (see "Secondary hard drive cover" on page 4-10). ✎ In order to remove the secondary hard drive cover, the primary hard drive cover must be removed first. ✎ This computer has two hard drives in two separate hard drive bays. The following procedure can be used to remove a hard drive from either hard drive bay. Remove the hard drive: 1. Removal and replacement procedures
Hard drive
The hard drive spare part kit (spare part number 517639-001) includes left and right bracket rails, a connector
cable, Mylar cover with tab, and 4 rubber isolators.
Before removing the hard drive, follow these steps:
1.
Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on,
and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then
unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery (see
“Battery” on page 4-7
).
5. Remove the primary hard drive cover (see
“Primary hard drive cover” on page 4-9
). If you are removing the
secondary hard drive, remove the secondary hard drive cover also (see
“Secondary hard drive cover” on
page 4-10
).
