HP SIM is the clear choice for managing HP servers and storage by being the easiest, simplest and least expensive way for HP system administrators to maximize system uptime and health. HP SIM 6.2 is the first version of HPSIM to fully discover the HP Superdome 2 OA properly using the WS-Manage protocol. There are three core components of HP Insight Remote Support Advanced: 1. Remote Hardware Event Management 2. Remote Data Collection 3. Remote Device Access Remote Hardware Event Management Hardware event monitoring is performed by a suite of tools distributed among monitored devices, a Central Management Server and the HP Support Center. Diagnostic software programs including host OS or device resident SNMP Agent or WBEM Providers, monitor the status of hardware and generates notification events when predetermined conditions are detected for supported servers, connected peripherals, and storage devices connected to supported systems (see illustration below). Web Based Enterprise Services (WEBES), the hardware event analysis component of Insight RSA, monitors these devices for these events, analyzes them and determines if an event has occurred that requires a service call to correct. If the analysis determines that a service call is required, WEBES notifies the Remote Support Client interface to automatically log a service incident with the HP Support Center for review and an engineer automatically dispatched to the site with the correct parts without the customer needing to participate in the fault recovery process or support center engineers needing to dial into the SD2 and manually analyze these events. For each service incident WEBES logs to the support center, WEBES also sends an event to HP-SIM providing the customer with detailed information on the service incident. Remote Data Collection and Proactive Services This is an option available in addition to the remote device monitoring. It collects system information and logs so that proactive assessments can be made by HP support. Assessments can include system healthchecks, current patching levels, system audits, and system availability reports. By using the proactive assessments, HP can help customers manage their IT environment and increase their systems availability. Remote data collection does not collect any business data, but like remote device monitoring, it contains information such as IP addresses, system details, and system administrator contact information. As such, the same standard techniques (for example, SNMP, WBEM, DCOM, HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, and FTP) that are used in the remote device monitoring are applied for remote data collection. Remote Device Access This function allows an HP support specialist to remotely access the CMS and managed systems via a secure network link. NOTE: This function operates independently from the Remote Hardware Event Management and Remote Data Collection & Proactive Services components of Insight Remote Support Advanced. 16
