Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet, and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer. 4. Remove the keyboard/top cover (see Keyboard/top cover on page 27), and then remove the following components: a. Battery (see Battery on page 34) b. Speakers (see Speakers on page 38) c. System board (see System board on page 42) NOTE: The removal steps for the heat sink vary depending on the computer model. Refer to the steps that match the computer. Remove the heat sink: 1. Turn the system board upside down with the front toward you. NOTE: Steps 2 and 3 apply to computer models equipped with an Intel Pentium or Intel Celeron processor. See steps 4 through 6 for heat sink removal information for computers equipped with an Intel Core processor. 2. Before removing the heat sink, follow these steps:
