Removal and replacement procedures Top cover ✎ The top cover spare parts kit includes the following: speakers, TouchPad and cable, LED board and cable, and switch cover. Description Top cover for use only with black computer models equipped with a fingerprint reader Top cover for use only with black computer models not equipped with a fingerprint reader Top cover for use only with white computer models not equipped with a fingerprint reader Spare part number 579160-001 518788-001 518108-001 Before removing the top cover, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see "Battery" on page 4-6). 5. Remove the following components: a. Hard drive (see "Hard drive" on page 4-14) b. Optical drive (see "Optical drive" on page 4-9) c. Switch cover and keyboard (see "Switch cover and keyboard" on page 4-18) d. Speaker assembly (see "Speaker assembly" on page 4-23) e. Display assembly (see "Display assembly" on page 4-24) Remove the top cover: 1. Turn the computer upside down, with the front toward you. 2. Remove the 9 Phillips 2.5×6.5 screws 1 that secure the top cover to the bottom of the computer. 3. Remove the one Phillips PM2.5×7.0 screw 2 that secures the top cover to the computer.
