Chapter 2: Taking pictures and recording video clips Taking still pictures You can take a picture almost any time the camera is on, regardless of what is being shown on the Image Display. 1 Frame the subject for your picture in the viewfinder. 2 Hold the camera steady and press the Shutter button halfway down. The camera measures and then locks the focus and exposure. This Focus Lock feature allows you to focus on a subject that is not in the center of the picture, or to capture action shots more quickly by prefocusing in the area where the action will occur. 3 Press the Shutter button all the way down to take the picture. The image appears for several seconds on the Image Display for instant review. During this time, the image is saved to memory, unless you choose to delete it by pressing the OK button. In Step 2 above, one (or both) of the Viewfinder lights may start blinking. For an explanation of this, see the description for Viewfinder lights on page 10.
