Page 21 highlights

Integrated routing The HP 8/40 SAN Switch does not support Hot Code Load from Fabric OS 6.1.0 to 6.1.1b in a dual backbone configuration with a routed connection to an M-EOS product. FCS automatic distribution When using the FCS automatic distribution feature in Fabric OS 6.0 or later, all switches in the fabric must be running Fabric OS 6.0 or later. If any switches are running Fabric OS 5.x or ealier, only manual distribution can be used. Fabric OS 6.0 or later allows only FCS automatic distribution when in strict mode, requiring only switches with Fabric OS 6.0 or later. 10-Gb interoperability 10-Gb interoperability between FC10-6 and McDATA blades is not supported due to a HW limitation, however, the FC10-6 is supported in chassis running in Interopmode 2 or 3 (FC10-6 to FC10-6 connections only). An FC10-6 blade will not synchronize with a McDATA 10-Gb blade, but will not negatively affect the system. Port Fencing Port Fencing is supported only on E_Port and F_Port classes. Port fencing is available with the optional Fabric Watch license. Extended fabrics and R_RDY flow control Starting with Fabric OS 5.1, the Extended Fabrics feature is supported in conjunction with R_RDY flow control. R_RDY flow control mode can be enabled using the portCfgISLMode command. R_RDY flow control mode that uses IDLE primitives does not support HP frame-based trunking for devices such as Time Division Multiplexor (TDM). To support frame-based trunking with extended fabrics, Fabric OS 6.1.1b has been enhanced to support interoperability with these distance-extension devices. Fabric OS 6.1.1b allows extended fabric E_Ports to operate in VC_RDY mode using ARB or IDLE primitives as fill words. This allows frame-based trunking on extended fabric E_Ports even with IDLE primitives are configured for these ports when operating in native VC_RDY mode. Before this change, frame-based trunking was supported only when ARB primitives were used in VC_RDY mode. With Fabric OS 6.1.1b, frame-based trunking is supported on extended fabric E_Ports, regardless of whether IDLE or ARB primitives are used when operating in native VC_RDY mode. Additional Fabric OS 6.1.x enhancements This section describes additional Fabric OS 6.1.x enhancements: • Provides new Fabric OS commands to rename an alias, zone, and zone configuration: • zone -copy-Copies the zone object to a new zone object • zoneobjectrename-Renames the zone object • Detects and handles a corrupted zone configuration (under /etc/fabos/zone*) without rebooting. The switch also logs the error in RASLog. • Adds a command that provides both the WWN and serial number of the switch. The -sn option displays the serial number. For example, wwn -sn returns both the WWN and the serial number • Provides additional information on a faulty port in Fabric Watch to aid in troubleshooting. • Enables use of passive FTP to download firmware. • Enables the user to specify a quality password policy that prevents the selection of passwords with consecutive, identical characters. • Uses multiple NTP servers with the tsclockserver command for redundancy. For example, if one NTP server fails (DR scenario), there is a backup that switches can access. • Logs a RASLog message when a 2.x switch joins the fabric. The HP 8/40 SAN Switch does not support Hot Code Load from Fabric OS 6.1.0
to 6.1.1b in a dual backbone configuration with a routed connection to an M-EOS
product.
Integrated routing
When using the FCS automatic distribution feature in Fabric OS 6.0 or later, all
switches in the fabric must be running Fabric OS 6.0 or later. If any switches are
running Fabric OS 5.x or ealier, only manual distribution can be used.
Fabric OS 6.0 or later allows only FCS automatic distribution when in strict mode,
requiring only switches with Fabric OS 6.0 or later.
FCS automatic distribution
10-Gb interoperability between FC10–6 and McDATA blades is not supported
due to a HW limitation, however, the FC10–6 is supported in chassis running in
Interopmode 2 or 3 (FC10–6 to FC10–6 connections only). An FC10–6 blade
will not synchronize with a McDATA 10-Gb blade, but will not negatively affect
the system.
10-Gb interoperability
Port Fencing is supported only on E_Port and F_Port classes. Port fencing is
available with the optional Fabric Watch license.
Port Fencing
Starting with Fabric OS 5.1, the Extended Fabrics feature is supported in
conjunction with R_RDY flow control. R_RDY flow control mode can be enabled
using the
portCfgISLMode
command. R_RDY flow control mode that uses IDLE
primitives does not support HP frame-based trunking for devices such as Time
Division Multiplexor (TDM). To support frame-based trunking with extended fabrics,
Fabric OS 6.1.1b has been enhanced to support interoperability with these
distance-extension devices.
Fabric OS 6.1.1b allows extended fabric E_Ports to operate in VC_RDY mode
using ARB or IDLE primitives as fill words. This allows frame-based trunking on
extended fabric E_Ports even with IDLE primitives are configured for these ports
when operating in native VC_RDY mode. Before this change, frame-based trunking
was supported only when ARB primitives were used in VC_RDY mode. With Fabric
OS 6.1.1b, frame-based trunking is supported on extended fabric E_Ports,
regardless of whether IDLE or ARB primitives are used when operating in native
VC_RDY mode.

Additional Fabric OS 6.1.x enhancements
This section describes additional Fabric OS 6.1.x enhancements:
Provides new Fabric OS commands to rename an alias, zone, and zone configuration:
zone –copy
—Copies the zone object to a new zone object
zoneobjectrename
—Renames the zone object
Detects and handles a corrupted zone configuration (
under /etc/fabos/zone*
) without re-
booting. The switch also logs the error in RASLog.
Adds a command that provides both the WWN and serial number of the switch. The
–sn
option
displays the serial number. For example,
wwn –sn
returns both the WWN and the serial number
Provides additional information on a faulty port in Fabric Watch to aid in troubleshooting.
Enables use of passive FTP to download firmware.
Enables the user to specify a quality password policy that prevents the selection of passwords with
consecutive, identical characters.
Uses multiple NTP servers with the
tsclockserver
command for redundancy. For example, if
one NTP server fails (DR scenario), there is a backup that switches can access.
Logs a RASLog message when a 2.x switch joins the fabric.
