Update recommendations NOTE: With the introduction of Fabric OS 6.1.1, certain features/functions were removed from Web Tools (resident in the firmware) and migrated into the Data Center Fabric Manager (DCFM) management application. It is therefore recommended that before you upgrade to 6.1.1x or later, if DCFM is not running on your fabric, you review the Web tools functionality moved to DCFM section in these release notes and take note of what has changed, so you can assess the impact to your particular fabric All products supported by Fabric OS 6.0.x can be upgraded to Fabric OS 6.1.1b. If applicable, HP recommends that users upgrade to Fabric OS 6.1.1b as soon as possible to take advantage of the latest fixes and features. Upgrading to Fabric OS 6.1.1b is allowed only from Fabric OS 6.0.0b and later. This policy to support only one-level migration, which began with Fabric OS 6.0.0, provides more reliable and robust migrations for customers. With fewer major changes in internal databases, configurations, and subsystems, the system can perform the upgrade more efficiently, taking less time and ensuring a truly seamless and non-disruptive process for the fabric. The new one-level migration policy also reduces the large number of upgrade/downgrade permutations that must be tested. Only products based on 4-Gb and 8-Gb-capable ASICs are supported by Fabric OS 6.1.1b. Older products using previous generation 2-Gb ASICs will remain on the 5.x code stream. Fabric OS 5.x is fully compatible in fabrics running Fabric OS 6.1.x, and for routing. For routed SANs with M-EOS switches in an edge fabric, upgrades to Fabric OS v6.1.1b will be non-disruptive if all EX_Ports to M-EOS edge fabrics are attached to 4/256 SAN Directors with an MP router blade (FR4-18i). Supersedes Fabric OS 6.1.0f released in November, 2008. New hardware support The HP StorageWorks 4/256 Director running Fabric OS 6.1.0a or later now supports the following Director blades: • HP StorageWorks SAN Director 32 Port 8-Gb FC blade (Brocade FC8-32) • HP StorageWorks SAN Director 48 Port 8-Gb FC blade (Brocade FC8-48) NOTE: The HP StorageWorks SAN Director 16 Port 8-Gb FC blade (FC8-16) is supported with the 4/256, starting with Fabric OS 6.0.0b.
