Configuring Storage Arrays . Term Description Storage Partition Topology A collection of topological elements (Default Host Group, host group, host and host port) shown as nodes in the Topology View of the Storage Partitions Window. Note: You must define the various topological elements if you want to define specific volume-to-LUN mappings for host groups and/or hosts. Even if you are not planning to use Storage Partitions, you can still define hosts and host ports that are connected to the particular Storage Array and view the default volume-to-LUN mappings to determine which logical unit numbers are being used to access the volumes in the Storage Array. Storage Partition One or more volumes that have been mapped to a host or host group using specific volume-to-LUN mapping. Up to eight storage partitions are supported on the Disk Array FC60. A group of volumes that are mapped to a host group consumes a single storage partition, regardless of the number of volumes or the number of hosts in the host group. For example, in Figure 7 storage partition 2 includes volumes Legal and Engineering, which are mapped to all the hosts in the Kansas City group. Additional volumes can be added to the existing storage partition by mapping them to the same host group. A single volume mapped to a specific host also consumes a single partition. In Figure 7 storage partition 1 includes only volume Financial because it is mapped to host KC-B only. Additional volumes can be added to this partition by mapping them to the same host. Default Host Group A standard node in the Topology View that designates all host groups, hosts, and host ports that: (1) do not have any specific volume-to-LUN mappings, and (2) share access to any volumes that were automatically assigned default LUNs by the controller firmware during volume creation. Host Group This is an optional topological element that you define if you want to designate a collection of hosts that will share access to the same volumes. Host A computer that is attached through a Fibre Channel connection to the Storage Array and accesses various volumes on the Storage Array through its host ports. You can define a host as a separate entity or as part of a host group. You can define specific volume-to-LUN mappings to an individual host as well as have the host be part of a host group that shares access to one or more volumes. CONFIGURING STORAGE ARRAYS 27
