All permanent data on the printer hard disk is preserved, such as downloaded fonts, macros, and held jobs. Automatic Wiping marks all disk space used by a previous job and does not permit the file system to reuse this space until it has been sanitized. Only Automatic Wiping enables users to activate disk wiping without having to take the printer offline for an extended amount of time. Notes: • This menu item appears only if a formatted, non-defective printer hard disk is installed. • Off is the default setting. • Due to the large amount of resources required for Automatic Wiping, activating this option may decrease printer performance, especially if the printer requires hard disk space faster than it can be wiped and returned to service.
