Settings for Speakers (SPEAKER SETUP) Specifying the rear speaker position and height If you select other than "NONE" in "REAR," specify the position and height of the rear speakers, referring to the diagram on page 15. The default setting is underlined. • BEHIND (LOW) Select this if the rear speakers are located in the section B and D. • BEHIND (HIGH) Select this if the rear speakers are located in the section B and C. • SIDE (LOW) Select this if the rear speakers are located in the section A and D. • SIDE (HIGH) Select this if the rear speakers are located in the section A and C. These parameters are not available when "REAR" is set to "NONE". xDISTANCE You can vary the distance of each speaker as follows. The default adjustments are in the parentheses. • FRONT (17ft) Front speaker distance can be set in 1 foot steps from 3 to 50 feet. • CENTER (17ft) Center speaker distance can be set in 1 foot steps from a distance equal to the front speaker distance to a distance 5 feet closer to your listening position. • REAR (12ft) Rear speaker distance can be set in 1 foot steps from a distance equal to the front speaker distance to a distance 15 feet closer to your listening position. Notes • When you set the distance, the sound cuts off for a moment. • If each of the front or rear speakers are not placed an equal distance from your listening position, set the distance of the closest speaker. xBALANCE You can vary the balance of each speaker as follows. The default adjustments are in the parentheses. • FRONT (center) Adjust the balance between the front left and right speakers (6 dB (L) to 6 dB (R), 1 dB steps). • REAR (center) Adjust the balance between the rear left and right speakers (6 dB (L) to 6 dB (R), 1 dB steps). xLEVEL You can vary the level of each speaker as follows. The default adjustments are in the parentheses. • CENTER (0 dB) Adjust the level of the center speaker (-6 dB to +6 dB, 1 dB steps). • REAR (0 dB) Adjust the level of the rear speakers (-6 dB to +6 dB, 1 dB steps). • SUBWOOFER (0 dB) Adjust the level of the subwoofer (-6 dB to +6 dB, 1 dB steps). xTEST TONE You can hear the test tone from each speaker in sequence. The default setting is underlined. • OFF: The test tone is not emitted from speakers. • ON: During adjustment of "BALANCE" or "LEVEL," the test tone is emitted from both speakers simultaneously. To adjust the volume of all the speakers at one time Use the VOLUME control. To return to the default setting Select the item, then press CLEAR. Adjusting the speaker volume 1 When nothing is played, select "SPEAKER SETUP" after pressing DVD SETUP. 2 Select "TEST TONE" and set "TEST TONE" to "ON." You will hear the test tone from each speaker in sequence. 3 From your listening position, select "BALANCE" or "LEVEL" and adjust the value of "BALANCE" and "LEVEL" using M/m. During this adjustment, the test tone is emitted from both speakers simultaneously. 4 Select "TEST TONE" and set "TEST TONE" to "OFF" to turn off the test tone. Settings and Adjustments 50
