Learning the Basics Using the Internet 35 Using the Internet The Internet is a network of computer systems located all around the world. To access it, you must use an Internet Service Provider (ISP), which provides access to the Internet through a telephone line. You may be able to access the Internet over your company's network. You navigate your way around the Internet using a browser. Windows 2000 Professional comes with a browser, but your organization may prefer to use a different browser. For more information on using the Internet, click the Connect to the Internet icon, then click the Tutorial button. For more information about your company's Internet services, see your network administrator. Powering down the computer When you power down the computer, you have three options to choose from: Shut down, Standby, and Hibernation. Each method has its advantages. TECHNICAL NOTE: Before using any of these methods to power down your computer, save your files and make sure the disk activity lights are off. If you change your mind and decide to continue working after all, wait a few seconds before turning the computer on again.
