Neither the distance traveled nor the age and of the traveler size changes the need, for everyone, to use safety restraints. in In fact, the law inevery state in the United States and up every Canadian province says children to some age must be restrained while in vehicle. a Smaller Children and Babies To make the belt shorter, pull its free end as shown until the belt is snug. Buckle, position and release the same wayas the lap it part of a lap-shoulderbelt. If the belt isn't long enough, see "Safety Belt Extender" at the end this section. of Make surethe release button on the buckle is positioned so you would be able to unbuckle the safety belt quickly if you ever hadto. Children who are up against, or very close to, an air bag when it inflates can be seriously injured or killed. This is true even if your vehiclehas reduced-force frontalair bags. Air bags plus lap-shoulder belts offer the best protection for adults and older children, but not for young children and infants. Neither the vehicle's safety belt system nor air bag systemis designed for its them. Young childrenand infants need the protection that achild restraint systemcan provide.
