Playing the XM Satellite Radio The XM satellites are in orbit near the equator; therefore, objects located south of the vehicle may cause satellite reception interruptions. Ground repeaters help strengthen the satellite signals, but there may be congested areas where these signals cannot be picked up. Signals become weaker the farther north you travel from the equator.
