MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT 103 Evaporative Emission Control System (California model only) This system routes fuel vapors from the fuel system into the running engine or stores the vapors in a canister when the engine is stopped. Although no adjustments are required, a thorough visual inspection must be made at the intervals specified by the "Periodic Maintenance Chart". Spark Arrester This vehicle is equipped with a spark arrester approved for off-highway use by the U.S. Forest Service. It must be properly maintained to ensure its efficiency. Clean the spark arrester in accordance with the Periodic Maintenance Chart. CAUTION The spark arrester must be functioning properly to provide adequate fire protection. j Inspection that the hoses are securely connected. • Check Replace • hoses. any kinked, deteriorated, or damaged Spark Arrester Cleaning WARNING To avoid burns, wear gloves while cleaning the spark arrester. Since the engine must be run during this procedure, the muffler will become hot. • Remove the drain plug from the muffler.

Evaporative Emission Control System
(California model only)
This system routes fuel vapors from the fuel sys-
tem into the running engine or stores the vapors in
a canister when the engine is stopped. Although no
adjustments are required, a thorough visual inspec-
tion must be made at the intervals specified by the
“Periodic Maintenance Chart”.
Inspection
Check that the hoses are securely connected.
Replace any kinked, deteriorated, or damaged
hoses.
Spark Arrester
This vehicle is equipped with a spark arrester ap-
proved for off-highway use by the U.S. Forest Ser-
vice.
It must be properly maintained to ensure its
efficiency. Clean the spark arrester in accordance
with the Periodic Maintenance Chart.
CAUTION
The spark arrester must be functioning prop-
erly to provide adequate fire protection.
Spark Arrester Cleaning
WARNING
To avoid burns, wear gloves while cleaning
the spark arrester. Since the engine must be
run during this procedure, the muffler will be-
come hot.
Remove the drain plug from the muffler.
