CAUTION ● Use the towing hook only, not other parts of the vehicle. Otherwise, the vehicle body will be damaged. ● Use the towing hook only to free a vehicle stuck in sand, snow, mud, etc. Never tow the vehicle for a long distance using only the towing hook. ● The towing hook is under tremendous force when used to free a stuck vehicle. Always pull the cable straight out from the front or rear of the vehicle. Never pull the hook at an angle. ● Pulling devices should be routed so they do not touch any part of the suspension, steering, brake or cooling systems. ● Pull devices such as ropes or canvas straps are not recommended for use in vehicle towing or recovery. CAUTION ● Tow chains or cables must be attached only to the main structural members of the vehicle. ● Pulling devices should be routed so they do not touch any part of the suspension, steering, brake or cooling systems. ● Always pull the cable straight out from the front or rear of the vehicle. Never pull the vehicle at an angle. ● Pull devices such as ropes or canvas straps are not recommended for use in vehicle towing or recovery. ● DO NOT tow any automatic transmission vehicle with all four wheels on the ground (flat towing). Doing so WILL DAMAGE internal transmission parts due to lack of transmission lubrication. ● For emergency towing procedures refer to "Towing recommended by NISSAN" in the "In case of emergency" section of this manual. Automatic Transmission To tow a vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission, an appropriate vehicle dolly MUST be placed under the towed vehicle's drive wheels. Always follow the dolly manufacturer's recommendations when using their product. FLAT TOWING Towing your vehicle with all four wheels on the ground is sometimes called flat towing. This method is sometimes used when towing a vehicle behind a recreational vehicle, such as a motor home. Manual Transmission ● Always tow with the manual transmission in Neutral. ● After towing 500 miles, start and idle the engine with the transmission in Neutral for two minutes. Failure to idle the engine after every 500 miles of towing may cause damage to internal transmission parts. Rear WARNING ● Stand clear of a stuck vehicle. ● Do not spin your tires at high speed. This could cause them to explode and result in serious injury. Parts of your vehicle could also overheat and be damaged. CAUTION ● Failure to follow these guidelines can result in severe transmission damage. ● Whenever flat towing your vehicle, always tow forward, never backward. 6-12 In case of emergency
