New Vehicle "Break-In" Ignition Switch NOTICE: Your modern Pontiac doesn't need elaborate an the %break-in." But it will perform better in long run if you follow these guidelines: 0 Keep your speed 55 mph (88 km@) or at less for the first 500 miles (804 km). 0 Don't drive at any one speed fast or slow for the first 500 miles (804 km). Don't make full-throttle starts. 0 Ayoid making hard stops for the first 2 0 miles (322 kni) or so. During this time a: your new brake linings aren't yet broken in. Hard stops withnew linings can mean premature wear and earlierreplacement. Follow this "breaking-in" guideline every time you get newbrake linings. 0 Don't tow a trailer during "break-in." See "Towing a Trailer" in the Index for more information. -- -- With the ignition keyin the ignition switch, you can turn the switch to five positions: ACC (A): Position in which you can operate your electrical power accessories. Press in the ignition switch as you turn the top of it toward you. LOCK (B): The only positionin which you can remove the key. This locks your steering wheel, ignition and automatic transmission. 2-14
