9-12 Vehicle Service and Care 4. Remove the five retaining clips on the air filter housing. 5. Pull straight up on cover, while holding the cover remove the air filter. 6. Install the air filter. 7. Close the air filter housing cover and clip the five retaining clips. 8. On the V8 engine push in the airflow sensor connector. { CAUTION Operating the engine with the air cleaner/filter off can cause you or others to be burned. The air cleaner not only cleans the air; it helps to stop flames if the engine backfires. If it is not there and the engine backfires, you could be burned. Do not drive with it off, and be careful working on the engine with the air cleaner/filter off. Notice: If the air cleaner/filter is off, a backfire can cause a damaging engine fire. And, dirt can easily get into the engine, which will damage it. Always have the air cleaner/filter in place when you are driving. 3. On the V8 engine, remove the airflow sensor connector by pushing in the tab and pulling straight back.
