Instruments and Controls 4-13 Airbag Readiness Light There is an airbag readiness light which shows the airbag symbol. The system checks the airbag's electrical system for malfunctions. The light tells you if there is an electrical problem. The system check includes the airbag sensor, the pretensioners, the airbag modules, the wiring and the crash sensing and diagnostic module. For more information on the airbag system, see Airbag System on page 1-20. If the airbag readiness light and the Airbag Fault message on the Driver Information Center (DIC) stays on after you start the vehicle or comes on when you are driving, your airbag system may not work properly. Have your vehicle serviced right away. If there is a problem with the airbag system, a message may also come on. See DIC Warnings and Messages on page 4-26 for more information. The message will remain until 3 or 8 are pressed, but the light will remain until the problem is fixed. See DIC Warnings and Messages on page 4-26 for more information. { CAUTION If the airbag readiness light stays on after the vehicle is started or comes on while driving, it means the airbag system might not be working properly. The airbags in the vehicle might not inflate in a crash, or they could even inflate without a crash. To help avoid injury, have the vehicle serviced right away. This light will come on when you start your vehicle, and it will flash for a few seconds. The light should go out and the system is ready.
