System Care & Maintenance WARNING: Do not try to take apart or repair this equipment yourself. Service should be performed by authorized Brother service personnel only. Warranty will be voided if you take the unit apart. CAUTION: Be sure to check the power rating of this product on the rating plate as well as the rating of your local power supply. Connect this machine only to a matching power supply and grounded AC outlet. Connecting this product to an incorrect voltage and frequency may interfere with its operation and damage electrical parts, and thereby void your manufacturer's warranty. S In case of malfunction, immediately unplug the equipment and consult your dealer. S Do not pull on the power cords. To disconnect, be sure to always grasp the plug itself. S Avoid exposing the equipment to direct sunlight and other sources of heat, excessive moisture, or dust. S If you spill liquid onto the equipment, immediately unplug it and consult your Brother Service Center. S Do not use sprays in the vicinity of the Ensemble system. Aerosols are extremely harmful to the disk drive. S Unplug the equipment during thunderstorms. S Do not place heavy objects on the keyboard. S Keep the back and sides clear of obstructions to prevent overheating. S Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the equipment (don't use chemicals, solvents or detergents). S To avoid electrical interference, do not place the Ensemble system close to a radio receiver or television. If the Ensemble system is close to a television set, the disk drive may not work properly and diskettes may be damaged. S To avoid electrical interference, make sure that the disk drive opening on the Ensemble main unit is at least 8" from AC adaptor and 6" from monitor. Do not place AC adaptor beside or behind monitor. S After turning the equipment OFF, wait at least 10 seconds before restarting. Failure to wait 10 seconds may disrupt the start-up sequence, resulting in faulty operation and possible hardware damage. S Keep diskettes away from magnetic fields. Documents on the diskette can be damaged. S Do not turn the Ensemble unit off while printing. S Check that the ink-jet cartridge (under the top cover) has moved back to its right-most position before you turn the power off. If you notice that the cartridge has not moved to its right-most position, turn the power on again. The cartridge should now be correctly positioned and you can turn the power off. S Never try to manually move the ink-jet cartridge from side to side while it is in the Ensemble printer. S Do not use correction fluid on any paper you insert into the printer. Getting Started 5
