It can be turned on to operate with the internal microphone, an external microphone connected to the MIC terminal or the DM-50 Directional Stereo Microphone (optional) attached to the advanced accessory shoe. Make sure it's off when you want the microphone to be as sensitive as possible. Use the wind screen when recording in windy places such as the beach or near buildings.
