Troubleshooting Guide If a problem occurs with the flash, first refer to this Troubleshooting Guide. If this Troubleshooting Guide does not resolve the problem, contact your dealer or nearest Canon Service Center. The Speedlite does not fire. Make sure that the batteries are installed in the correct orientation. (p.8) Insert the mounting foot into the camera's hot shoe all the way, slide the lock lever to the right, and secure the Speedlite to the camera. (p.9) If the flash recycling time takes 30 sec. or longer, replace the batteries. (p.8) If the electrical contacts of the Speedlite and camera are dirty, clean the contacts. (p.4) The power turns off by itself. Auto power off took effect. Press the shutter button halfway. (p.10) The bottom of the picture looks dark. You were too close to the subject. Move away from the subject. Remove the lens hood if attached. The periphery of the picture is dark. If you took the picture with the flash head extended, the flash coverage will be smaller. Retract the flash head to the normal position and take the picture again. (p.19) The flash exposure is underexposed or overexposed. If there was a highly reflective object (glass window, etc.) in the picture, use FE lock. (p.18) If the subject looks very dark or very bright, set flash exposure compensation. (p.27) When high-speed sync is set, the effective flash range will be shorter, so move closer to the subject. (p.28) 41
