TO RETIGHTEN A LOOSE CHUCK (Figs. 17 and 17a) The chuck may become loose on the spindle and develop a wobble. Also, the chuck screw may become loose, causing the chuck jaws to bind and prevent them from closing. To tighten: . Unplug the hammer drill. WARNING: To prevent personal injury, ALWAYS disconnect the plug from power source BEFORE assembling parts, making adjustments or changing bits. 2. Open the chuck jaws 3. Insert a 5/16 in. or larger hex key into the chuck and tighten the chuck jaws securely. Tap the hex key sharply with a mallet in a clockwise direction. This will tighten the chuck on the spindle. Fig. 17a 4. Open the chuck jaws, and remove the hex key. 5. Tighten the chuck screw. Note that the chuck screw has left hand threads and counterclockwise direction tightens instead of loosens. i 1 [Z_recoWmAmReNndINeGd : for Tthhies utosoel omf iagthtatchbmeednatsngerooruascceasnsdorcieosuldthraetsualtreinnosterious injury.
