Changing the Deck Belt

Fuse 4. WARNING! Before servicing, repairing, or inspecting, always disengage PTO, set parking brake, stop engine and remove key to prevent unintended starting. 5. A fuse is installed in your tractor's wiring harness to protect the tractor's electrical system from damage caused by excessive amperage. 6. If the electrical system does not function, or your tractor's engine will not crank, first check to be certain that the fuse has not blown. It is located under the hood, mounted behind the top of the dash panel on the support bar. CAUTION: Always use a replacement fuse with the same amperage capacity as the blown fuse. Remove the deck belt from around the three spindle pulleys and the two deck idler pulleys. NOTE: The idler pulleys may have to be loosened, but not removed, in order to remove the belt from around them. To place the new belt, begin by routing the belt around the two outer spindle pulleys, then around the front spindle pulley as shown in Figure 7-8. Route the belt around the two deck idler pulleys as shown in Figure 7-8. Changing the Deck Belt WARNING! Shut the engine off and remove ignition key before removing the cutting blade(s) for sharpening or replacement. Protect your hands by using heavy gloves when grasping blades and pulleys. WARNING! The V-belts found on your tractor are specially designed to engage and disengage safely. A substitute (non-OEM) V-belt can be dangerous by not disengaging completely. For a proper working machine, use factory approved belts. All belts on your tractor are subject to wear and should be replaced if any signs of wear are present . To change or replace the deck belt on your tractor, proceed as follows: 7. 1. Remove the deck as instructed in the Cutting Deck section. 2. Remove the belt guards by removing the hex washer screws that fasten them to the deck. See Figure 7-7. 3. Loosen, but do not remove the belt keeper rod on the 8. pulley located near the back of the deck. See Figure 7-7. 9. PTO Belt Rotate Pulley Figure 7-8 Retighten the belt keeper rod loosened earlier. CAUTION: Failure to reinstall the belt keeper rod may result in serious damage to your tractor's PTO system. Remount the belt guards removed earlier. tractor’s electrical system from damage caused by excessive
amperage.
If the electrical system does not function, or your tractor’s engine
will not crank, first check to be certain that the fuse has not
blown. It is located under the hood, mounted behind the top of

Changing the Deck Belt
WARNING!

ignition key before removing the cutting blade(s) for

WARNING!
The V-belts found on your tractor are
specially designed to engage and disengage safely.
A substitute (non-OEM) V-belt can be dangerous by
not disengaging completely. For a proper working
machine, use factory approved belts.
All belts on your tractor are subject to wear and should be
replaced if any signs of wear are present . To change or replace
the deck belt on your tractor, proceed as follows:
1.
Remove the deck as instructed in the Cutting Deck section.
2.
Remove the belt guards by removing the hex washer
screws that fasten them to the deck. See Figure 7-7.
3.
Loosen, but do not remove the belt keeper rod on the
pulley located near the back of the deck. See Figure 7-7.

Remove the deck belt from around the three spindle
pulleys and the two deck idler pulleys.
NOTE:
The idler pulleys may have to be loosened, but not
removed, in order to remove the belt from around them.
5.
To place the new belt, begin by routing the belt around the
two outer spindle pulleys, then around the front spindle
pulley as shown in Figure 7-8.
6.
Route the belt around the two deck idler pulleys as shown
in Figure 7-8.

7.
Retighten the belt keeper rod loosened earlier.
CAUTION:
Failure to reinstall the belt keeper rod
may result in serious damage to your tractor’s PTO
system.
8.
Remount the belt guards removed earlier.
9.
Reinstall the deck making sure the belt remains routed
around the pulleys as instructed.
