Removing Drives From the Media Base 1 Save and close any open files, and exit any open programs. 2 Undock the computer. 3 Slide the drive latch release toward the center of the media base, and pull the drive out of the bay. 4 Dock the computer. See "Docking Your Computer." Installing Drives in the Media Base 1 Save and close any open files, and exit any open programs. 2 If you are replacing a drive, undock the computer to remove the existing drive (see "Removing Drives From the Media Base"). 3 To install an optical drive, insert the drive into the left bay on the media base. To install a floppy drive, insert the drive into the right bay on the media base. 4 Dock the computer. See "Docking Your Computer." The operating system recognizes the new drive. Connecting and Disconnecting External Drives • To connect an external drive such as a CD, CD-RW, or DVD/CD-RW drive while the computer is off, connect the drive cable to the 1394 connector on the media base. • To disconnect an external drive while the computer is off, remove the drive cable from the 1394 connector. • To connect and disconnect drives while the computer is running, see "Swapping External Drives While the Computer Is Running." NOTICE: To prevent damage to external drives, place them in a safe, dry place when they are not connected to the computer. Avoid pressing down on them or placing heavy objects on top of them.
