File Management This section describes how to manage device firmware (image files) and configuration files. It contains the following topics: • File Management Overview • Auto-Update/Configuration Feature • File Download • File Upload • Active Images • Copy Files • File System File Management Overview This section describes the system files found in the system and how they can be updated (downloaded) and backed up (uploaded). System Files The following system files are maintained on the system: • Startup Configuration File - Files with extension .text. These files contain the commands required to configure the device at startup or after reboot. The Startup Configuration file is created from the Running Configuration file, or can be created from another file. • Running Configuration File - Files with extension .text. These files contain all Startup Configuration file commands, as well as all commands entered during the current session. After the device is powered down or rebooted, all commands stored in the Running Configuration file are lost. During the startup process, all commands in the Startup Configuration file are copied to the Running Configuration file, and applied to the device. During the session, new configuration commands are added to the Running Configuration file. To update the Startup Configuration file with these configuration commands, the Running Configuration file must first be copied to the Startup Configuration file before powering down the 330 Dell PowerConnect 55xx Systems User Guide
