7. Gently tap both sides of the air filter against a hard surface four or five times to remove loose dust from the air filter. Note: Do not tap the filter too hard. This can cause it to bend or break. 8. Use a small vacuum cleaner that is designed for computers and other office equipment to remove any remaining dust from the surface of the filter. If you don't have one, gently clean the filter using a very soft brush (such as a clean artist's paintbrush). If the dirt is difficult to remove or the filter is broken, replace it.
