Appendix1 TROUBLESHOOTING ■ Troubleshooting checklist Symptom Check this item Remedy The scanner is not turned on. Scanning does not start. Vertical lines appear in the generated image. The generated image is skewed or distorted. The generated image quality is not good enough. Multi-feed errors occur frequently. Have you pushed the power button? Are the AC cable and AC adapter properly connected to the scanner? Is Windows normally started up? Are the documents loaded correctly on the ADF paper chute? Is the ADF closed completely? Is the USB cable or SCSI cable properly connected? (When using SCSI interface) Is SCSI ID set correctly? Does the Function Number Display indicates an alarm or an error? Does the alarm state remain displayed even after the scanner has been turned off and back on again? Is the glass dirty? Are the documents loaded correctly? Are the glass or sheet guides (a white location) clean? Do the documents satisfy the "Document Quality" and the "Multi feed Detection Conditions" in the chapter 6 of "fi-5530C2 Operator's Guide"? Are the documents set properly in the ADF paper chute? Is the document stack thicker than 10mm? Is the Pad ASSY dirty? Is the Pad ASSY worn out? Push the power button. Correctly connect the AC cable and the AC adapter. Disconnect the AC cable and the AC adapter from the scanner, then connect them again. If this does not restore the power supply, contact the store where you purchased the scanner or an authorized FUJITSU scanner service provider. Push the power button again after completely starting up Windows. Load the document correctly on ADF paper chute. Close the ADF completely. Correctly connect the cable. (When a USB hub is used, check the hub's power supply.) Set SCSI ID correctly by SCSI ID switch on rear of scanner. When the Function Number Display indicates an alarm or an error, refer to chapter 5 "TROUBLESHOOTING" of "fi-5530C2 Operator's Guide" for removing the alarm or the error. Turn off and on the power button. If this does not eliminate the alarm state, contact the store where you purchased the scanner or an authorized FUJITSU scanner service provider. Clean the glass following the instructions in chapter 3 "Daily Care" of "fi-5530C2 Operator's Guide." Load the documents correctly. Clean dirty locations. Use the documents that satisfy the "Document Quality" and the "Multi feed Detection Conditions" in the chapter 6 of "fi-5530C2 Operator's Guide" Fan the documents before scanning. Correctly align the document stack and load them on the ADF paper chute. For details, refer to section 2.1 "Installing the Scanner" on page 3 for details. Reduce the number of sheets in the document stack to 10 mm thickness or less. Clean the Pad ASSY. For details, refer to section 3.2 "Cleaning the ADF" of "fi-5530C2 Operator's Guide." Replace the Pad ASSY. For details, refer to section 4.2 "Replacing the Pad ASSY" of "fi-5530C2 Operator's Guide." AP-1
