Maximum number of enclosures example: HP MSA 2040 drive enclosures The following figure shows an example of an array configuration that demonstrates the maximum number of enclosures (four, including the controller enclosure) that are allowed in an array configuration. An HP MSA 1040 array is connected to three HP MSA 2040 drive enclosures. Each HP MSA 2040 drive enclosure contains 12 drives, and the HP MSA 1040 LFF controller enclosure contains 12 drives. Combined, the total number of drives adds up to 48 LFF drives, but no additional enclosures can be connected, because the maximum of 4 enclosures has already been reached.
