The printer requires good air flow on all sides, including the top. ● Protect the printer from airborne debris, dust, steam, grease, or other elements that can leave residue inside the printer. Visually inspect the cartridge Follow these steps to inspect each cartridge. CAUTION: Do not touch the gold-colored metal contacts on the edge of the cartridge. Fingerprints on the metal contacts can cause print-quality problems. 1. Remove the cartridge from the printer, and verify that there is no debris in the cartridge path. 2. Check to see whether you are using a genuine HP cartridge. A genuine HP cartridge has the word "HP" on it, or has the HP logo on it. For more information on identifying HP cartridges go to www.hp.com/go/ learnaboutsupplies. 3. Look at the gold-colored metal contacts on the cartridge. ● If you see any scratches, or other damage on the metal contacts, replace the cartridge. ● If the metal contacts do not appear to be damaged, push the cartridge gently back into its slot until it locks in place. Print a few pages to see if the problem has resolved. If you determine that you need to replace a cartridge, look on the cartridge or print the Supplies Status Page to find the part number for the correct original HP cartridge. Refilled or remanufactured cartridges HP cannot recommend the use of non-HP supplies, either new or remanufactured. Because they are not HP products, HP cannot influence their design or control their quality. If you are using a refilled or remanufactured cartridge and are not satisfied with the print quality, replace the cartridge with an original HP cartridge. NOTE: If you replace a non-HP cartridge with an original HP cartridge, the printhead will still contain non-HP ink. The print defect may remain until the printhead is depleted of that ink and is supplied with ink from the newly installed, original HP cartridge.
