Problems and Solutions (VCR) Before contacting a Hitachi authorized service center, perform the following simple checks. No power Problem You cannot insert a video cassette A television program was not recorded Timer recording was unsuccessful No playback picture or the picture is distorted You cannot see normal broadcasts Noise bars or streaks on playback When the PAUSE button is pressed during playback, the still picture has severe "noise bar" streaks Video Head Cleaning Explanation/Solution N Check that the power plug is connected to a wall outlet. N Have you pressed the POWER button? N A video cassette can only be inserted with the window side up and the safety tab facing you. N Check the DVD Recorder-VCR antenna connections. N Is the DVD Recorder-VCR tuner properly set? N Check if the safety tab is intact on the cassette. N Re-check the recording start/stop time settings and the current time N Check whether you insert a tape which has enough time record N Check to see if you are using a prerecorded tape. N Check the TUNER/EXTERNAL setting. N Check the TV antenna connections. N Press the DVD CHANNEL 3 or 4 buttons to minimize this effect. N A still picture may have "noise bars", depending on the condition of the tape. Press the DVD CHANNEL 3 or 4 buttons during SLOW motion to minimize this effect. N If poor pictures appear on a variety of cassettes, the video heads may need cleaning. This is a common problem, and unless it appears, the heads should not be cleaned. When cleaning the video heads, read all instructions provided with the head cleaning cassette. Incorrect head cleaning can permanently damage the video heads. If you are unable to solve the problem after reading the above instructions, note: N The model and serial number on the rear of your DVD Recorder-VCR N The warranty information N A clear description of the problem Then contact your nearest Hitachi authorized service center.
