Each motor has a manual brake release lever. Refer to Figure 3A below to locate the manual brake release levers on your power wheelchair. • Always verify that the manual brake release levers are in the full "up" (engaged) position before getting into or out of the seat. • Releasing the manual brakes (down position) allows power wheelchair to be pushed or roll on its own on a slope. Releasing the manual brakes when caregiver is not present or while on an incline increases the chance of a fall from the seat or a collision, and can result in serious injury or death. The levers move downward to release the brake on the motor. When both manual brake release levers are released, and the power is turned OFF, the chair can be pushed. When only one manual brake release lever is released, your power wheelchair cannot be driven. An error code will appear when attempting to operate your power wheelchair when the brakes are released. Pull both manual brake release levers upward to re-engage the brakes. Drive Release Figure 3A - Manual Brake Release Levers 28 Chapter 3 D82008753M 10/13
