Page 34 highlights

Note: If you are installing a 32-bit Windows operating system on your server, you can install your operating system using the ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD that comes with your server (see "Using the ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD" on page 18.) Complete the following steps to download the latest operating-system installation instructions from the IBM Support Web site: 1. Go to http://www.ibm.com/pc/support/. 2. In the Download section, click Downloads & drivers. 3. On the "Downloads and drivers" page, in the Brand field, select Servers. 4. In the Family field, select 326 Eserver 5. In the Operating system field, select your operating system. 6. Click Continue. 7. On the " 326 Support" page, in the View by document type field, ERserver select OS installation. 8. Select the instructions for your operating system. Using the RAID configuration programs Use the LSI Logic Configuration Utility program and ServeRAID Manager to configure and manage redundant array of independent disks (RAID) arrays. Be sure to use these programs as described in this book. v Use the LSI Logic Configuration Utility program to: - Perform a low-level format on a SCSI hard disk drive - View or change SCSI IDs for attached devices - Set SCSI protocol parameters on SCSI hard disk drives v Use ServeRAID Manager to: - Configure arrays - View your RAID configuration and associated devices - Monitor operation of your RAID controllers In addition, an LSI command-line configuration program (CFG1030) is available from http://www.ibm.com/pc/support/. Consider the following information when using the LSI Logic Configuration Utility program and ServeRAID Manager to configure and manage arrays: v The integrated SCSI controller with RAID capabilities in your server supports only RAID level-1. Installing an optional ServeRAID controller provides additional RAID levels. v If your server has a ServeRAID controller installed, you can use ServeRAID Manager to configure other supported RAID levels. v When you create a RAID level-1 (mirrored) pair, all drives must be on the same channel. v You can set up a mirror after the operating system is installed on the primary drive only if you are using the integrated SCSI controller with RAID capabilities. You must make sure that the primary drive has the lower SCSI ID (for example, 0). v To update the firmware and BIOS codes for an optional ServeRAID controller, you must use the IBM ServeRAID Support CD that comes with the controller. 20 326 Type 8848: User's Guide
