46 Chapter 3-Calibration d. While pressing the measuring button, slide the instrument along the ruler from left to right. Note: Try to slide the instrument at a constant speed. For an optimal slide speed, the instrument should take approximately two to four seconds with the protection glass attached (five to seven seconds with the polarization filter attached) to move from one end of the ruler to the other. if the speed is too fast or too slow, an error may occur. e. When the specimen measuring port comes to the position where it touches the other end of the ruler's opening on the right, release the measuring button. When you release the measuring button the device beeps. If the scan is successful, a check mark appears in the wizard above the icon of the color you have just scanned, and an arrow appears below the icon of the next color to scan. The instructions in the wizard change accordingly. If the scan is not successful a red and white icon appears above the color you have just scanned indicating that the scan was not successful and that you should rescan that row. When all of the separation rows have been successfully scanned, a check mark appears above each of the color separation icons.
