Replacing the heat-sink modules

Disconnect the battery cable from the connector on motherboard. Refer to "Replacing the battery". Remove the three screws that secure the system fan to the heat-sink. Disconnect the power cable from the motherboard. Lift up the system fan to remove it. Note: All three fans can be replaced by using the same method. Step 10. To install a new system fan: a. Line up the new system fan with the mounting holes on the heat-sink and place it into position. b. Secure the new system fan to the heat-sink with the three screws. c. Connect the new power cable to the connector on motherboard. d. Reconnect the battery cable to the connector on the motherboard. Step 11. Reattach the EMI cover and rear cover. Replacing the heat-sink modules Note: Turn off the computer and wait 3 to 5 minutes to let it cool down before removing the base cover. To replace the heat-sink modules: Step 1. Step 2. Step 3. Step 4. Step 5. Step 6. Step 7. Remove any media (disks, CDs, DVDs or memory cards) from the drives, shut down the operating system, and turn off the computer and all attached devices. Unplug all power cords from electrical outlets. Disconnect all cables attached to the computer. This includes power cords, input/output (I/O) cables, and any other cables that are connected to the computer. Refer to "Left and right view" and "Rear view" for help with locating the various connectors. Remove the rear cover. Refer to "Removing the rear cover". Remove the EMI cover. Refer to "Removing the EMI cover". Disconnect the battery cable from the connector on motherboard. Refer to "Replacing the battery". Remove the system fans. Step 4.
Remove the rear cover. Refer to “Removing the rear cover”.
Step 5.
Remove the EMI cover. Refer to “Removing the EMI cover”.
Step 6.
Disconnect the battery cable from the connector on motherboard. Refer to “Replacing the battery”.
Step 7.
Remove the three screws that secure the system fan to the heat-sink.
Step 8.
Disconnect the power cable from the motherboard.
Step 9.
Lift up the system fan to remove it.
Note:
All three fans can be replaced by using the same method.
Step 10. To install a new system fan:
a.
Line up the new system fan with the mounting holes on the heat-sink and place it into position.
b.
Secure the new system fan to the heat-sink with the three screws.
c.
Connect the new power cable to the connector on motherboard.
d.
Reconnect the battery cable to the connector on the motherboard.
Step 11. Reattach the EMI cover and rear cover.
Replacing the heat-sink modules
Note:
Turn off the computer and wait 3 to 5 minutes to let it cool down before removing the base cover.
To replace the heat-sink modules:
Step 1.
Remove any media (disks, CDs, DVDs or memory cards) from the drives, shut down the operating
system, and turn off the computer and all attached devices.
Step 2.
Unplug all power cords from electrical outlets.
Step 3.
Disconnect all cables attached to the computer. This includes power cords, input/output (I/O)
cables, and any other cables that are connected to the computer. Refer to “Left and right view”
and “Rear view” for help with locating the various connectors.
Step 4.
Remove the rear cover. Refer to “Removing the rear cover”.
Step 5.
Remove the EMI cover. Refer to “Removing the EMI cover”.
Step 6.
Disconnect the battery cable from the connector on motherboard. Refer to “Replacing the battery”.
Step 7.
Remove the system fans. Refer to “Replacing the system fans”.
