4 Close the automatic document feeder. Make sure the cover is closed securely. Cleaning the automatic document feeder The scanner parts can become contaminated with ink, toner particles, or paper coatings. Clean the scanner feed rollers if documents do not feed smoothly or easily, or if several pages feed at one time. 1 Turn off and disconnect the power to the scanner. 2 Press the release button on the automatic document feeder and then open the cover. Feed rollers 3 Dampen a clean, lint-free cloth or cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol (95%). 4 Wipe the feed rollers by moving the swab from side to side. 5 Rotate the roller forward with your finger and repeat step 4 until the entire roller is cleaned.
