N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR3400 User Manual Wireless Repeating (Also Called WDS) The WNDR3400 router can be used with a wireless access point (AP) to build large bridged wireless networks. Wireless repeating is a type of Wireless Distribution System (WDS). Warning: If you use the wireless repeating function, your options for wireless security are limited to None or WEP. For more information about wireless security, see Chapter 2, "Safeguarding Your Network." The following figure shows a wireless repeating scenario: Base Station AP Repeater AP Figure 5-10 To set up a wireless network using WDS, the following conditions must be met for both APs: • Both APs must use the same SSID, wireless channel, and encryption mode (see "Manually Configuring Your Wireless Settings" on page 2-4 or "Using Push 'N' Connect (WPS) to Configure Your Wireless Network" on page 2-11). • Both APs must be on the same LAN IP subnet. That is, all the AP LAN IP addresses are in the same network. • All LAN devices (wired and wireless computers) must be configured to operate in the same LAN network address range as the APs.
