Basic Shooting Settings Using the Self-timer The camera is equipped with a self-timer that releases the shutter ten seconds or two seconds after you press the shutter-release button. The self-timer is useful when you want to be in the picture you are taking, and when you want to avoid the effects of camera shake that occur when you press the shutter-release button. When using the self-timer, use of a tripod is recommended. Set Vibration reduction to Off in the setup menu (A88) when using a tripod to stabilize the camera during shooting. 1 Tap the self-timer icon. 80 50 2 Tap Y or Z. • Y (ten seconds): Use on important occasions, such as weddings • Z (two seconds): Use to prevent camera shake Self-timer Off • The mode selected for self-timer is displayed. • Tap the self-timer setting icon to return to the previous screen. • If you tap any other icon, the setting screen for that item is displayed. 3 Frame the picture and press the shutter-release button halfway. • Focus and exposure will be set. 1/250 F3.5 Shooting Features 57
