Smart Portrait Mode (Shooting Smiling Faces) When the camera detects a smiling face, you can take a picture automatically without pressing the shutter-release button (smile timer). You can use the skin softening option to smooth the skin tones in human faces. Enter shooting mode M A (shooting mode) button M F Smart portrait mode (A 24-25) Shooting Features 1 Without pressing the shutter-release button, frame the picture and wait for the subject to smile. • When the camera detects a human face, a yellow double border (focus area) is displayed around that face. When the camera has focused on that face, the double border will turn green for a moment and focus is locked. • Up to three faces can be detected. When the camera 1 / 2 5 0 F 3.2 detects more than one face, a double border is displayed around the face closest to the center of the frame, and single borders are displayed around the other faces. • If the camera detects that the face framed by the double border is smiling, the Smile timer (A 50) feature is activated and the shutter is automatically released. • After the camera releases the shutter, it will continue to detect faces and smiles, and will release the shutter again if it detects a smiling face. 2 Shooting ends. • Any one of the following operations can be used to cancel smile detection and stop shooting. - Turn the camera off. - Set Smile timer (A 50) to Off. - Press the A button and select a different shooting mode. B Notes About Smart Portrait Mode • Digital zoom cannot be used. • Under some shooting conditions, the camera may be unable to detect faces or detect smiles. • See "Notes About Face Detection" (A 67) for more information. C Auto Power Off in Smile Timer Mode When Smile timer is set to On, the auto power off function (A 89) is activated and the camera turns off when either of the situations indicated below persists and no other operations are performed. • The camera does not detect any faces. • The camera detected a face, but cannot detect a smile. C When the Self-timer Lamp Blinks When using smile timer, the self-timer lamp blinks when the camera detects a face and flickers immediately after the shutter is released. C Releasing the Shutter Manually The shutter can also be released by pressing the shutter-release button. If no faces are detected, the camera focuses on the subject at the center of the frame. 49
