59/3@&OCPPL 1BHF 8FEOFTEBZ 0DUPCFS Connecting the TX-NR901 Positioning Your Speakers This section explains how to position your speakers. The picture on page 21 shows the general speaker positions. Front Left & Right Speakers The front left and right speakers should be positioned facing the listener at about ear level, and equidistant from the TV. Angle them inward so as to create a triangle, with the listener at the apex. Center Speaker The center speaker should be positioned close to your TV (preferably on top) facing forward at about ear level, or at the same height as the front left and right speakers. Surround Left & Right Speakers The surround left and right speakers should be positioned at the sides of the listener, or slightly behind, about 3 feet (100 cm) above ear level. Ideally they should be equidistant from the listener. Surround Back Left & Right Speakers The surround back left and right speakers are necessary to enjoy Dolby Digital EX, THX Surround EX, DTS-ES Matrix, and DTS-ES Discrete. Position them behind the lis- tener about 3 feet (100 cm) above ear level. They should be equidistant from the listener, creating a 60˚ triangle. Make sure that the angle at the apex of the trian- gle is about 60 degrees. This is recommended by THX. Subwoofer Surround back left speaker Surround back right speaker The volume and quality of the bass output from your subwoofer will depend on its position, the shape of your listening room, and your listening position. In general, the best bass sound can be obtained by putting the subwoofer in a front corner or one-third of the way along the front wall. Corner 1/3 room length To find the best position for your subwoofer, while playing a movie or some music with a good bass sound, 22 experiment by placing your subwoofer at various positions within your room and choose the one that provides the most satisfying results at your listening position. Using Dipole Speakers You can use dipole speakers for the surround left and right and surround back left and right speakers. Dipole speakers output the same sound in two directions. Dipole speakers typically have an arrow printed on them to indicate how they should be positioned. The surround left and right dipolar speakers should be positioned so that their arrows point toward the TV/screen, while the surround left and right dipolar speakers should be positioned so that their arrows point toward each other, as shown.
