4.9.7 Answering system settings 4. Change the settings as desired. • Each setting is explained in this section. 5. Follow the on-screen instructions. [Ring Count] setting You can change the number of times the system rings before the answering system answers a call. Note • If you select [Toll Saver], the answering system answers at the end of the 2nd ring when new messages have been recorded, or at the end of the 5th ring when there are no new messages. If you call your home phone from outside to listen to new messages using remote operation (4.9.6.3 Standard remote access (Page 64)), you will know that there are no new messages when the phone rings for the 3rd time. You can then hang up without being charged for the call. For landline voicemail service subscribers To receive voicemail and use the answering system properly, please note the following: • To use your landline phone service provider's voicemail service (4.8.12 Voicemail support (Page 60)) rather than the answering system, turn off the answering system (4.9.2 Turning the answering system on or off (Page 61)). • To use the answering system rather than your landline phone service provider's voicemail service, please ask the service provider to deactivate your voicemail service. If your landline phone service provider cannot do this: - Set the answering system's [Ring Count] setting so that it answers calls before your landline's voicemail service does. It is necessary to check the number of rings required to activate your landline's voicemail service before changing this setting. - Increase the number of rings required for your landline phone service provider's voicemail service, so that the answering system can answer calls before your landline's voicemail service does. Contact your landline phone service provider as necessary. [Recording Time] setting This setting determines the maximum recording time allowed for each caller. Note • • If you select [Greeting Only], the answering system does not record caller messages. If you do not record your own greeting message and [Greeting Only] is selected, the answering system will play the pre-recorded greeting-only message asking callers to call again later. If you record your own greeting message (Recording your greeting message (Page 62)), ask callers to call again later. [Remote Code] setting The remote access code is a 3-digit code that must be entered in order to access the answering system remotely using standard remote access. This code prevents unauthorized parties from listening to your messages remotely, and is also used for the new message alert feature (see 4.9.6.2 New message alert (Page 63)). [Voice Prompt] setting This setting determines the language used for answering system voice guidance prompts. 66 User's Guide
