CARING FOR YOUR WATER HEATER DrainingtheWaterHeater(cont.) StandardDrainMethod Serviceisolatorvalvekitsmaybepurchasedfromthe manufacturer,distributor,orplaceofpurchase.The kitsincludetwofull-portisolationvalvestobeused intheinletandoutletwaterlines.Thesekitsprovide a meansforfulldiagnostictestingandeaseofsystem flushing. Hot Water Service Valve Pressure Relief Valve WWaatteerr Outlet Drain Cold Water Service Valve WWaatteerr Inlet FreezeProtection WARNING:Failuretodrainthewater heatercancauseseriouspersonalinjuryfromscalding and/orproductdamage. Wheneverthewaterheatermaybeexposedtofreezing conditions,makesuretocompletelydrainthewater fromtheunit.Seepage20. Freezingconditionscomefromtheventilationsystem ondirect-ventmodelsandfromexposuretocoldairon outdoormodels. Allofthesewaterheatersareequippedwithafreeze protectionelectricheater.Thisheaterprevents freezinginsidethewaterheaterdowntoanambient temperatureofapproximately-30°F(-34°C).These temperaturesareallbasedontemperatureswithout wind. Theheateronlyprotectstheinternalcomponentsof thewaterheater. NOTICE:Unpluggingordisconnectingthepower supplytothewaterheaterwillalsodisconnectthe powertotheheater. Externalpipingandvalvesrequireadditional freezeprotection.Onemethodistowrapinsulation aroundthepipingandvalves. Anothermethodistoturnonahotwaterfaucetand leaveasmallamountofwaterrunningatafaucet. Thiswillprotectthewaterheater,piping,andvalves fromfreezing. RunningWaterFreezeProtection 1 TurnoffthewaterheaterbypressingthePOWER ON/OFFbuttononthecontrolpanel. 2 Closethegasshut-offvalve(s). 3 Openahotwaterfaucetslightlyuntilthewater streamisapproximately1/8in.(0.3cm).Besureto checktheflowperiodically. 22 Care Instructions
