Joining PipesandFittings Allpipe,fittings,solventcement,primers,and procedures,fortheU.S.,mustconformtoAmerican NationalStandardsInstituteandAmericanSociety forTestingandMaterials(ANSI/ASTM)standards.For Canada,allpipe,fittings,solventcement,primers, andproceduresmustconformtoULC-S636andvent manufacturerspecifications. CAUTIONS: •DoNOTusesolventcementthathasbecomecurdled, lumpy,orthickened. •DoNOTthinsolventcement.Observeshelf precautionsprintedonthecontainers. •Forapplicationsbelow32°F,useonlylower temperature-typesolventcement. •Appropriatesolventandcleanermustbeusedforthe typeofventpipeused(PVC,CPVC,orABS). Cleaner-PrimerandMedium-BodySolvent Cement Alljointsinventpipingmustbeproperlysealed,and werecommendusingthefollowingmaterial: PVCmaterialsshoulduseASTMD-2564-gradecement. CPVCmaterialsshoulduseASTMF-493-gradecement. ABSmaterialsshoulduseASTMD-2235-gradecement (ABSisnotallowedforexhaustventinCanada). CementingJoints 1.Cutpipeendsquare;removejaggededgesand burrs.Chamferendofpipe;thencleanfitting socketandpipejointareaofalldirt,grease,or moisture. 2.Aftercheckingpipeandsocketforproperfit,wipe socketandpipewithcleaner-primer.Applyaliberal coatofprimertoinsidesurfaceofsocketand outsideofpipe. 3.Applyathincoatofcementevenlyinthesocket. Quicklyapplyaheavycoatofcementtothepipe andinsertpipeintofittingwithaslighttwisting motionuntilitbottomsout. 4.Holdthepipefittingfor30secondstopreventthe taperedsocketfrompushingthepipeoutofthe fitting. 5.Wipeallexcesscementfromthejointwitharag. Allow15minutesbeforehandling.Curetimewill varyaccordingtofit,temperature,andhumidity. NOTICES: •Cementmustbefluid;ifnot,recoatwithfresh cement. •Stirthesolventfrequentlywhileusing.Useanatural bristlebrushorthedaubersuppliedwiththecan. Theproperbrushsizeisoneinch. 40
