Messages Displayed When You Use the Scanner Function Message "Error has occurred in the scanner." "Fatal error has occurred in the scanner." Cause The application-specified scan conditions have exceeded the setting range of the machine. An unrecoverable machine error has occurred. "Insufficient memory. Close all other applications, then restart scanning." Memory is insufficient. "Insufficient memory. Reduce Scanner memory is the scanning area." insufficient. "Invalid Winsock version. Please use version 1.1 or higher." You are using an invalid version of Winsock. Solution Check whether the scanning settings made with the application exceed the setting range of the machine. An unrecoverable machine error has occurred. Contact your service representative. • Close all the unnecessary applications running on the client computer. • Uninstall the TWAIN driver, and then reinstall it after restarting the computer. • Reset the scan size. • Lower the resolution. • Set with no compression. For details about the settings, see TWAIN driver Help. The problem may be due to the following: • Scanning cannot be performed if large values are set for brightness when halftone or high resolution is used. For details about the relationship between scan settings, see "Relationship between Resolution and Scan Size", Scan. • If a misfeed occurs, you might not scan an original. Remove the misfeed, and then scan the original again. Install the operating system of the computer or copy Winsock from the operating system CD-ROM. 237
