Security reference 10. This chapter explains features SyncThru™ Admin 5 provides for security. This chapter includes: • SSL communication (HTTPS) • User authentication • SNMPv3 • User credentials SSL communication (HTTPS) SSL (RFC5246) stands for Secure Sockets Layer. It is cryptographic protocol that provides secure communication on the network. If you enable SSL, all the data from your browser to SyncThru™ Admin 5 server is encrypted. Related parts are as follows: • From SyncThru™ Admin 5, click Settings menu > Settings > SyncThru Management > HTTP Security > Web Server Configuration. User authentication For controlling access to the SyncThru™ Admin 5 server itself, an authentication feature is provided. If you enable authentication, only registered users can open SyncThru™ Admin 5. SyncThru™ Admin 5 requires a login id and password. In addition, the registered users have different roles, which include permissions for SyncThru™ Admin 5 operations. Related parts are as follows: • From SyncThru™ Admin 5, click Settings menu > Settings > User Management > User Accounts. • From SyncThru™ Admin 5, click Settings menu > Settings > User Management > User Roles. • From SyncThru™ Admin 5, click Settings menu > Settings > SyncThru Management > HTTP Security > Authentication. SNMPv3 You can configure the security settings for the devices which support SNMPv3 security (RFC2571). These devices will not report any status information until you set up the security configuration. The SNMPv3 protocol encrypts the information being sent between SyncThru™ Admin 5 and the devices. Related parts are as follows: • From SyncThru™ Admin 5, click Devices menu > Device List > Connection Settings > SNMPv3 Setting. • From SyncThru™ Admin 5, click Settings menu > Settings > Device Management > Connection Settings. • From SyncThru™ Admin 5, click Settings menu > Settings > Device Management > Unconfigured Devices. User credentials The embedded web servers of the Samsung devices support user credentials for security (You can see the setting in SWS, SyncThru Web Service: Maintenance > Security). If the security option is enabled, you need to configure user credentials for SyncThru™ Admin 5 because some features of SyncThru™ Admin 5 use HTTP protocol. That means only an Administrator of the SWS can do the jobs from SyncThru™ Admin 5 if the security of the device is enabled.
