Measurement examples Measurement: Harmonie distortion of tape-recorder under use of 1 kHz filter (1 kHz pass). 1. Press button "RMS" and "Filter Off". 2. Measure level of a reeorded 333 Hz-signal at the tape-recorder output. 3. Press button "1 kHz" filter. 4. Measure 1 kHz eontent (3rd harmonie of 333 Hz) If the 333 Hz level amounts to e. g. 100 mV and the 1 kHz level to 4 mV the harmonie distortion eorresponds to 4 %. Through a limited slope of the 1 kHz filter only harmonie distortions of ~ 1 % ean be measured. Measurement: Harmonie dlstortion with 1 kHz harmonie distortion filter (1 kHz STOP). 1. Press button "RMS" and"Filter Off". 2. Measure 1 kHz level at the test piece output. 3. Press button "Res 1" or "Res 2" (UPM 550) resp. button "1 kHz - STOP" (UPM 550-1). The harmonie wave level ean be read direetly. At this measurement it must be eonsidered that the UPM 550 resp. UPM 550-1 ean not be overloaded more than 50 dB above fundamental wave level. But 50 dB eorresponds to a harmonie distortion indieation of 0.3 % at full seale defleetion. Therefore harmonie distortions down to ~ 0 1 % are still readable. External Filters The rear panel is fitted with two BNC-eonneetors (18) and (19) for eonneetion of suitable external filters. If this faeility is to be used, the button (14) EXT must be pressed. Please note that the input as weil as the output of the external filter eonneetors have an irnpedanee of 60Q Q. The attenuation through external filters rnay be eorreeted by means of the potentiometer eontrol (20) "EXT. FILTER CAL. 0 dB" on the rear panel. Sinee almost all filters have zero-attenuation at 1000 Hz easy reealibration is possible with the built-in test oseillator.
