English The engine oil specification and capacity can be found in the engine instruction manual. NOTICE The engine of the lawn mower does not contain any engine oil on delivery. Starting the engine with no or too little engine oil may damage the lawn mower. - Always check the engine oil level before starting. If necessary, add additional engine oil before starting work. 11 Starting the Engine 11.1 Starting the Engine WARNING ■ To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injuries to the operator or bystanders, keep hands, feet and other parts of the body away from the mowing blade, 5.7.3. Never reach under the mowing deck or attempt to touch the mow‐ ing blade while the spark plug boot is connec‐ ted. WARNING ■ Never operate your lawn mower if it is dam‐ aged, improperly adjusted or maintained, not completely and securely assembled or not functioning properly, 5.5. To reduce the risk of personal injury, always wear proper clothing and protective apparel, including proper eye protection, 5.4. To reduce the risk of seri‐ ous or fatal injury from loss of control, always hold the lawn mower with both hands when you are working, 5.7.3. WARNING ■ Never start the engine if fuel is spilled. To reduce the risk of serious and fatal injuries to the operator or bystanders, avoid creating any source of ignition until fuel vapors have dissi‐ pated. Before starting the engine: ► Make sure you have a secure and firm footing. ► Stand upright. ► Always hold and operate the lawn mower with two hands. ► Position the lawn mower on a level surface. To start the engine: 11 Starting the Engine ► Set the throttle lever (1) to position I. ► Slowly pull out the starter handle (2) with your right hand until you feel resistance. ► Quickly pull out and return the starter han‐ dle (2) until the engine is running. ► If the engine does not start: Observe the oper‐ ating instructions for the engine. NOTICE To make starting easier, avoid starting the mower in high grass. 12 Shutting Off the Engine 12.1 Shutting Off the Engine WARNING ■ The mowing blade will continue to move for a short while after the switch lever is released. To avoid serious or fatal injury, avoid contact with the moving mowing blade. To reduce the risk of personal injury from unintended activa‐ tion or unauthorized use, shut off the engine, ensure the mowing blade has stopped and remove the spark plug boot before transport‐ ing the unit. To shut off the engine: ► Position the lawn mower on a level surface. ► Release the switch lever to disengage the mowing blade, 13.2 ► Set the throttle lever (1) to position 0 (2).
