Boosting the transmission power In most situations, 1 Watt of transmission power is all you need. If you find yourself far away from other stations and have trouble getting a response, you may need to boost the transmission power from 1 Watt to 2.5 Watts or 5 Watts: 1. Select the channel you want to transmit on 5 Watts 2. Press and hold the BAND1/2.5/5W button for two seconds to switch to the next transmission power level (for example, from 5 Watts to 2.5 Watts; from 2.5 Watts to 1 Watt, or from 1 Watt around to 5 Watts). 2.5 Watts 3. The display shows the new transmission power in the upper left hand corner. The transmit power remains at the new setting until you change it again. 1 Watt Note: Don't forget to change the transmission setting back to 1 Watt when you move close to other stations. Some channels (for example, channels 13 and 67) limit the power of transmission to 1 Watt so that there is less interference between boaters attempting to use the channel at the same time. If you switch to one of these channels, the radio changes back to 1 Watt automatically.
