Using Your Phone The XC645 has dual keypads-one in the Handset, and one on the Base Unit. This is like having two separate phones because most operations can be performed using either the Handset or the Base units. Making and Receiving Calls The following features of the XC645 phone are different depending on the Handset's location when you make or receive a call. ANSWER CALL MAKE CALL HANG UP REDIAL HANDSET ON BASE Pick up Handset (AutoTalk) HANDSET OFF BASE Press A 1) Pick up Handset 2) Press A 3) Listen for dial tone 4) Dial the number Press A 1) Press A 2) Listen for dial tone 3) Dial the number - OR - Return Handset to Base (AutoStandby) 1) Pickup Handset 2) Press A 3) Listen for dial tone 4) Press F 1) Press A 2) Listen for dial tone 3) Press F BASE UNIT 1) Press speaker The speaker LED Lights. 2) Talk into the microphone 1) Press speaker 2) Listen for dial tone 3) Dial number Press speaker. The speaker LED goes off. 1) Press speaker The speaker LED lights. 2) Listen for dial tone 3) Press redial Note: Sometimes when you press A to hang up the phone, you may get an error tone and the phone will not disconnect. If this happens, place the Handset on the Base Unit or press A again while holding the Handset close to the Base Unit. 31
