Section 4 - Configuration SMART Test Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART) is a system on a hard drive used to monitor and report on the health of the drive. Under this tab, your hard drives will be listed, and can be selected to conduct a SMART test. If the hard drive is grayed out, then it does not support SMART test functionality. To run the SMART test, select the hard drive you wish to perform the SMART test on. Select whether to run a Quick Test or Extended Test: • The Quick Test usually takes less than 10 minutes to complete. This test will check the electrical, mechanical, and read performance of the hard drive. The results will be displayed as Passed/Failed on the web UI. • The Extended Test is a much more thorough test and therefore requires a lot more time to complete. The total time taken will depend on the specifications of the hard drives being tested. After selecting a test, click Start to run the test. When the test is complete, the results will be displayed in the Result column. You can also click the Create Schedule button to run the test at a predetermined time and date (refer to "Creating a Schedule" on page 94 ). You can also check the Send Results by E-mail checkbox to send the test results to the e-mail account specified in the E-mail Settings section of the configuration.
