Upgrading Your System To improve your image processing speed and the appearance of the images on your monitor, you can add the following items to your system:  Additional memory. Scanned images use much more memory than text files, so you may need more RAM in your computer and a larger hard disk.  Processor. You may want to increase your system's processing speed; large files take longer to process than small ones.  Video card. For accurate previews on your monitor, use a 16-bit or 24-bit color video card.  High resolution monitor. The resolution of your monitor also affects the quality of the image you see. Consider a high resolution monitor if you do precise color work, but be sure you have a compatible video card.  Compression software. Many different programs are available to make image files smaller for storage or transmission.
